Making An Old House Look More Spacious

We inherited a small old house from my father, it needed a lot of renovation in order be suitable for my family. I have young children so dangers like full length glass doors and stairs without guard rails will have to be changed.

Although most of the furniture has been removed, the place still looks small. The current lighting fixtures in the house are all situated in the middle of each room. Centre fixtures mean that light only emanates from the middle of the room and the corners stay dark, this coupled with dark coloured walls makes the rooms look even smaller than they are.

We purchased recessed lighting from Utilitech and installed it in the four corners of each room. We painted the walls in lighter colours and moved in our furniture.

When 85 percent of the work was complete we tried checking out the effect of the new lighting. We were very pleased by what we saw, the moment we turned on the Utilitech recessed lighting the rooms were illuminated from corner to corner, this coupled with the newly painted walls made each room seem more light and spacious.

It looks great and I can’t wait to move in with my family.
